If you stop eating sugar for a couple of days your body will have some amazing benefits.

It may not surprise you to hear that sugar is bad for you. We know, or at least we have been told, that it causes us numerous health issues if we continue to eat it and yet so many people do not stop.

The results of eating too much sugar can be dire, it is linked obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. What’s more, with every generation the amount of sugar we eat increases. Today, most processed foods contain some form of sugar and we may not even really know that we are eating it.

In the past, many nutritionists had labeled fat as the core culprit for excessive weight gain, in response to this (sometimes in order to lower the fat content) more and more manufacturers were increasing the amount of sugar in our food while decreasing the amount of fat. But what nutritionists have now found is that it is, in fact, the sugar that is causing our increase in weight gain and bad health.

The good news is that by stop eating sugar you can almost immediately reverse the effects in the long term. In fact, a new study has shown that by cutting back on sugar you can see the results on your body in just ten days!

The evidence

The study, which was conducted by Dr. Robert Lustig with a team of researchers at the University of California, proved that bad cholesterol (LDL), diastolic blood pressure, and triglyceride levels decreased dramatically in the participants after 10 days without sugar. Not only this, but all of the children in the study were found to have drastically reduced their risk of type 2 diabetes.

How to take action:

The first thing to realize is what are good and bad calories. Products that are labeled as low-calorie foods are most likely to contain lots of sugar, and therefore be bad for your health. This is because marketers have found a way to advertise sugar as fat-free, but it isn’t really true. The sugar may start as fat-free, but it turns quickly into fat that is stored in your system and can be dangerous.

You should only intake up to 10% of added sugar in your daily diet of 2,000 calories – which is around 12 g of sugar. In fact, we don’t need to consume any added sugar at all. It has no nutritional value, and we should try to stop eating sugar entirely.

Sugar can be secretly included in a lot of foods you wouldn’t expect, so the best way to avoid it to is always read the label of everything you buy. What’s more, the names for sugar can also come in many different forms, look out for high fructose corn syrup, cane sugar, sucrose, maltose, dextrose, glucose/fructose, beet sugar, glucose solids, dehydrated cane juice, dextrin, and maltodextrin. Alternatively, it is totally possible to cut out all processed foods and simply eat fresh produce and cook your own meals from scratch. That way you know exactly what has gone into them.
