Stop mosquito bites from itching

It is summer and mosquitos do party with our blood. Learn how to stop mosquito bites from itching.

In so many countries all over the world enjoying the outdoors can also mean suffering from mosquito bites.

The tiny little creatures are so small that it can be hard to avoid them and to avoid their bites.

Often you aren’t even aware that you have been bitten until a few days later when a bump arrives on your skin and itches like crazy. The bumps are a reaction from an anticoagulant that prevents the blood from clotting.

The bite itself doesn’t hurt, but the painful reaction can last days or even weeks. The best thing to do is to leave it to heal itself, and not to scratch it!

We, however, know that can be hard to do which is why we’ve put together the top seven home remedies to help stop mosquito bites from itching:

1. Green tea bags

Dampen and refrigerate a green tea bag then hold it on the bite until it stops hurting or stinging. This should help to sooth the swelling and stop the itching.

2. Honey

It might sound like it would attract more of the little critters to your skin (and it can sometimes do that), but in fact, honey is an antiseptic agent that can stop a bite from getting infected and getting much worse.

3. Scotch Tape

Cover the bite with a piece of scotch tape (or a band-aid) and it will stop you from scratching the bump and making it worse, which can lead to infections.

4. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a wonder plant with many beneficial properties to it, but for mosquito bites, aloe vera draws on its anti-inflammatory agents to sooth the bite. Not only this but if you store the aloe vera in the fridge and then apply it, it will also prevent itchiness.

5. Rubbing Alcohol

The alcohol in rubbing alcohol or other substances with alcohol content such as witch hazel and hand sanitizer is effective at taking away the itch and even the bite. It can sting a little, but it shows it’s working.

6. Soothing basil

Rubbing basil leaves on the bite can help to sooth the swelling and stop the itching. It has also been known to stop the mosquitoes bites from iching in the first place.

7. Make an aspirin paste

Crush up some aspirin and mix it with a little bit of water until it forms a paste, dab it on the bite and feel the effects almost instantly. The drug contains acetylsalicylic acid, an anti-inflammatory that can help to sooth the stinging sensation of the bite.
