Are the bugs annoying you? A non-toxic mason jar repellent is your solution.
We all know that using citronella oil stored in mason jars is helpful especially in areas prone to bugs.
In fact, using essential oils is the best option especially if you are not into chemical based repellents.
Essential oils can be used for relaxation, relieving stress, a good night rest for and even supporting a healthy immune system.
In this case, these oils will ward off bugs whilst provide a really beautiful lighting which helps you relax and calm down.
In this article, we will tell you how to make a very simple bug repellant with such oils and some other readily available ingredients around you.
To make an amazing mason jar repellent you will need the following:
- 4 mason jars or recycled jelly jars (use a jar made of glass given that the process involves flames)
- 40 drops of the following: cedarwood, lavender, lemon and thieves’ essential oils. The oil is best known to help repel bugs but you can use ones that you fancy more. 10 drops of each should be put in each jar.
- 2 fresh lemons
- 2 fresh limes
- 8 sprigs fresh rosemary
- Water
- Floating tea light candles.
Preparations:
- Line up your 4 jars
- Slice your lemons and limes and put aside
- Put two sprigs of rosemary into each jar
- Fill the jar to about ¾ full with water
- Add the essential oils of your choice, in this case, about 10 drops in each jar
- Swirl the jar lightly
- Put the pieces of lemon and limes equally in each jar
- You can add more water if you want to raise the volume of the mixture
- Place a floating tea light candle on top of the mixture
- Place the jar at a place of your liking, light it up and you are good to go
- As you know candles can be dangerous when left unattended to, more even around small children. In other words, keep an eye out for your little one’s safety and yours too when using the candles.
- Nothing in the mixture is safe to be ingested. So, do not let anyone especially kids to ingest the mixture.
- Have extra tea lights as a backup just in case the ones you are using burns out.
- Fruits in water tend to go bad fast and they smell awful when they stay for long. This is to imply that after 2 or 3 days discard the fruits and liquid and start the preparation again.
Try this and we promise you may like it so much that you never go back to chemical products to fight bugs again!
