Good News for Cuddlers! Sleeping Together with Your Partner Is Good for Your Health
Cuddlers - Sleeping Together

To all cuddlers out there. Keep cuddling!

According to research undertaken by the Wall Street Journal, sleeping in a bed with a partner has a number of health benefits.

Some scientists also suggest that those in long-term relationships tend to be healthier than those sleeping alone. Controversial? Yup.

Previous research concluded that women do not sleep well when someone else is in the bed, and it also found that both sexes move around a lot when in bed together, not conducive to sleep.

However, this new research has found that sleeping with a partner in the same bed reduces the level of cortisol, a stress hormone that your body produces. So with a reduced or zero amount of cortisol in the body, this can create feelings of safety and security, helping you to have a more relaxing and heavy sleep.

The study also found that women who were in solid relationships fell asleep faster and woke up less than single women. The study found that sleeping naked further boosted your relationship security, as sleeping naked builds upon your intimacy and this can strengthen the relationship.

When we cuddle our bodies release oxytocin, which is commonly known as the “feel good hormone”, which makes us feel happier.

A leading gynecologist in America has been quoted as saying about cuddlers,

Cuddling, holding and sexual play releases chemicals like oxytocin in the brain that creates a sense of well-being and happiness.

After a session at the gym, we often feel elated and content, which is down to endorphins, the same endorphins are released when we cuddle, making us feel happy in the presence of our partner.

Holistic therapists have been saying for years that physical contact can help with stress and blood pressure. Something as simple as a hand massage can make a bad day bearable.

When we are hugged, cuddled or kissed, the body releases oxytocin. With the chemical reactions that take place in the body following this release, it can significantly help in reducing blood pressure as well as helping with stress and anxiety levels.

Cuddling can also help us form a bond, whether to a partner or to a baby. In a recent study, the hormone oxytocin, which is linked to childbirth and breastfeeding, was shown that it plays a significant part in bonding mother and child.

It’s normal and healthy to want to cuddle either your partner or your baby, but you might want to restrain yourself if you have had a particularly bad day at work.

Dr. Fran Walfish, celebrity doctor and an author has been quoted as saying,

Too little or too much is not good. Observe and explore your own personal comfort zone. Your goal is to find a balance between your comfort zone and needs along with your partners.

Interestingly, a study conducted on mice found that the oxytocin hormone we all produce helped in tissue regeneration. Older mice were injected with oxytocin and after nine days there was a noticeable improvement.

What this all means is that it’s good to have a daily hug, a regular cuddle, and a massage often to keep your levels of oxytocin up high for a restful and healthy sleep.

So, do you want all of you to have better health? Become cuddlers!
