6 Unhealthy Thoughts That Are Holding You Back

When you find yourself stressed out, unable to think straight, make your own decisions or you are simply unable to move forward, more often than not, it is the clutter in your mind that holds you back.

More precisely, the unhealthy thoughts in our heads govern our lives!

We all have a voice in our heads, sometimes it’s the ‘good’ voice that keeps us from harm or encourages us to do the right thing, but most times, that voice can also be very irritating; relentlessly criticizing and putting you down.

No one likes to be criticized at all times, but although we may not be like that with other people, the sad truth is that we still do it to ourselves. Sometimes days when we feel extra peppy happen, and we may ignore those annoying voices.

However, in those rough and stressful times, here are six unhealthy thoughts you have that hold you back:

1. I can’t do this, I don’t know how.

Man, if I had to give away a penny for every time I thought that I would be bankrupt by now. That task or project which needs a ton of research or making babies or simply getting your house tidy can seem daunting at times.

Yes, if you are doing it the first time, it will be hard and may take days or months to achieve, but it’s never impossible.

2. I don’t want to be wrong.

Yeah, who doesn’t? Thomas Edison was wrong 999 times before he got the light bulb right. The important thing to know and accept when we are wrong that there is learning there, learning about what not to do the next time to get up and try again.

3. They tried it too and it didn’t work out for them.

This is one of the most common unhealthy thoughts that hold people back. Well, however, logical this thought may seem to you, it is only an excuse for not trying those things yourself.

The important thing to do here is to explore why they failed? Learn from that and then consider doing it better.

4. I lack experience for this.

This is a great way to limit yourself. Instead of putting yourself out there and learning something new, you don’t even try.

You can always get the experience by doing it, yes, that may take time, but it’s not entirely impossible. Think, how do I get the experience?

5. I don’t deserve it/them.

Now this one boils down to having a very low self-esteem. Feelings of inadequacy or thinking that you have nothing much to offer is very detrimental to your progress.

There is always something people can learn from each other, if not, offering your time to be their sounding board is what others need most times.

6. I don’t know what to do.

Yes, there will be times when you don’t really have that clarity about what to do next, you’d probably feel stuck. In times like these, the worst thing to do is nothing.

Like the song of TV series ‘Orange is the new black’ – Taking step is easy, standing still is hard… Keep moving, do something, so once you get that clarity, you are ready to bounce back in no time!
